The Fourth of July holiday is a great time to celebrate all things “Made in the USA!” We are proud to say that our APQS machines are made right in the heartland of America by skilled craftspeople with small town values. We put our hearts and souls into every machine that leaves our factory, and our lifetime warranty backs up our promise of handcrafted quality and reliability.

In that spirit, I have created a patriotic quilt pattern I’ve called “Made in USA” to share with you and help you celebrate all the things that make living in America great. The pattern is fun and easy to make! Fuse the stars in place to speed things up, and learn a fast technique that uses a fabric “tube” instead of templates to make the blocks go together quickly.

I used solid red, white and blue fabric but you can raid your stash and create a charming scrappy quilt using a mix of fabrics! The quilt would look super with a simple overall design, but I couldn’t resist adding some freehand custom quilting to the red and white strips to add movement. I used invisible thread to stitch around each star as well as in the ditches since the fabrics have such high contrast. This trick makes me look good even if I wander slightly out of the ditch from time to time!

I also used the APQS Quilt Path computerized system to create a unique border design that proudly shouts U-S-A! The digital design is a free pattern available from Wasatch Quilting. It’s fun to be able to combine my love of freehand quilting with the precision of computerized quilting. While I could certainly mark my borders with the letters and follow the lines, the Quilt Path makes quick work of the process and it even allows me to flip and rotate the design to fit each border.

As you’ll see in the photos, I still have to add the binding (thinking of navy) but the APQS family at our factory wanted to pose with the quilt to wish you a very safe, happy Fourth of July holiday!
