Basting a quilt for hand quilting

I know there is a way to adjust your stitch in order to baste a quilt for hand quilting and would be interested in finding out how to do this.

Hi J;
I have an Ultimate 1 and I just turn my speed down to about 5 and do an extra-large meander, at that speed I end up with 2-3 stitches per inch which for me is great for hand-quilting. Some folks do a grid for basting, but the stipple worked out better for me and my customers have prefered it.

What a great idea to do an extra large meander! The grid method is time consuming and frankly a big pain! I'll try the meander next time and see how my customers like that. Do you adjust the tension? Either top or bobbin? ...and what about thread type?
