Big Star, quilt pattern, Angela Clark, APQS, longarm quilting

Angela Clark of Thread Waggle Quilting and APQS Raleigh created a wall hanging that is simple yet stunning. Angela’s vibrant colors and dark background fabric make it modern, yet it could be just as striking in other colorways such as soft pastels or modern prints. The best part is that it is a very quick project—you can move from cutting the fabric to quilting it and doing the binding in an afternoon.

Angela chose a modern and clean quilting design to complement the simplicity of the pattern. She used two pantographs that she personally designed. Both are available at www.digitechpatterns.com. They are Modern Wave and Modern Wave 2.

According to Angela, one of the fun things she loves about using the APQS Quilt Path computerized quilting system is that she can set up pantographs with different designs on every row using in the Pantograph Advanced Mode. She decided to do three rows of Modern Wave and then one of Modern Wave 2 and then she repeated the sequence all the way down the quilt.

Her “out of my safe box” decision was to use Superior Threads Omni Medium Grey (3024) for her top thread. Angela said she is not usually a thick thread fan, but she fell in love with the effect on this quilt!  In fact, she has since been busy buying more colors of Omni because of the way it adds texture. She used Grey SuperBob pre-wound bobbins on the back of the quilt to blend in. Since she also wanted the quilt to be fairly flat she opted for Dream Cotton Select batting.

Angela has been busy preparing for the Row by Row Experience at her shop in Raleigh. If you are making the rounds at quilt shops in the southeast, be sure to stop by and see this wonderful quilt in person, and check out her store!
