Update -- Operation Homefront Quilt

Print Page  |  Print Color Page  |  Email Page

Dear APQS,

As of this date, (Oct. 15, 2004) we have sent quilts to 750 families of our fallen heroes.  We have sent a lot more than 750 quilts, though, as we send patriotic baby quilts to families who have children 2 and under.  Lately, we have also been able to send quilts to older siblings.

We have received many cards and letters from the families expressing their appreciation for the love and care they have received through the quilts.  We have photos for about 500 of the quilts on our guild website along with excerpts from cards and letters we have received from these families.  Our guild just redid the Operation Homefront Quilt pages. http://westpascoquilters.org/ohfq.htm

We received an overwhelming response from the APQS ads in the national quilting magazines asking for fabric and quilt tops.  We have received around 1,000 yards of fabric (maybe more) and around 500 quilt tops.

We do not need any more fabric (we are partially buried in it).  Quilt tops may still be sent if people still want to make them.  If we find that we have an overabundance, we will finish them and send them to wounded soldiers at the VA hospitals.

So far, Jessica has made 34 of the quilts sent herself and quilted 106 of them on the Millennium.  We have more that she has quilted but they have not been sent yet.  She is stippling and meandering baby quilts and a few of the lap quilts but for the most part her quilting is getting very fancy.  She is doing feathers, curling waves, feathered and star wreaths and lots of other designs depending on the particular quilt top.

She has been receiving a lot of sampler type quilt tops so she will do different quilting in each block to compliment the block design.  These take longer to quilt so she is not able to complete 7-8 per day anymore.  She thoroughly loves the Millennium since it is so easy to use.

We have had a lot of people write us to ask questions and it would be more efficient for us to email them.

Thanks so much for your support.
